The versatile bidirectional power supply is an integration of two systems: a DC-DC synchronous buck converter for charging a lead acid battery and a DC-DC synchronous boost converter for driving a CC-CV DC load from the lead acid battery. Control of the system is managed through an onboard MSP430F5132 microcontroller.
Like many equivalent off-the-shelf parts in the market, this controller is designed for energy transfer in one direction only—that is, FPT. To achieve a bidirectional operation, the application with the controller must be adapted to work also in RPT.
In this Letter, a bidirectional boost converter for high-power transmission between the ESB and the DC microgrid is proposed. Also a control system based on the staggered timing trigger mechanism is developed. The proposed converter and its control system are verified by the RTDS simulation.
Bidirectional Power Directing Switches The purpose of the two switches is to channel the flow of power from the panel or to the load depending on the state of the system. When the system is in the battery charging state, MOSFET Q3A is turned on and MOSFET Q3B is turned off. Power flow occurs from the panel to the battery.
Simulation results show that the proposed converter and its control system can realise stable high-power bidirectional transmission between the ESB and the DC microgrid, and achieve accurate tracking of the power reference value. Introduction
