A series of technical research and industrial experiments have been carried out [1-5], and a deep knowledge in energy-saving technology system for aluminum electrolysis has been formed. Aluminum Electrolysis Energy Saving Series Technology based on Steady Flow and Heat Preservation (FHEST) has been successfully developed.
Both solid (powder) and molten aluminum are examined for applications in the stationary power generation sector, including the integration of aluminum-based energy storage within aluminum refinement plants. Two innovative aspects are proposed in this work.
When designing aluminum-based solid-state electrolytes, several key aspects need to be considered: (1) Ion transport behavior, the high charge density of aluminum ion results in relatively poor ion transport rate within solid-state electrolytes, which can limit the power density of AIBs.
To this regard, this study focuses on the use of aluminum as energy storage and carrier medium, offering high volumetric energy density (23.5 kWh L −1), ease to transport and stock (e.g., as ingots), and is neither toxic nor dangerous when stored. In addition, mature production and recycling technologies exist for aluminum.
Currently, aluminum-ion batteries (AIBs) have been highlighted for grid-scale energy storage because of high specific capacity (2980 mAh g −3 and 8040 mAh cm −3), light weight, low cost, good safety, and abundant reserves of Al [, , ].
The rapid operation of electrolytic aluminum load is faster than the installation speed of Wenshan power grid, which brings great pressure to the system stability. The shortage of electrolytic aluminum is 1000 MW before the production of electrolytic aluminum in dry period, 100 MW in flood season.
