Power Conversion System (PCS): The PCS is responsible for converting alternating current (AC) power to direct current (DC) power while charging the battery and vice versa during discharge. The PCS operates in two modes - grid-forming mode (voltage source inverter) and grid-following mode (current source inverter).
Step changes in the inverter's reference power show the strategy's quick adaptation to reactive power demands, while maintaining a stable active power supply. Furthermore, active power control disconnects the BESS when it approaches its lower SoC limit in a near-depleted battery scenario.
