This paper presents the development of a wind-powered battery charging system for isolated microgrids. The system implements Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) for optimization of the generated power and a current-limiting loop for battery storage system (BSS) voltage regulation and safe operation.
This current-limiting loop is based on a dynamic battery current limitation. That approach has the advantage of being able to connect several systems in parallel, as the BSS voltage is not tightly controlled, but limited. A comparison between the three classic methods of MPPT in wind turbines is presented.
Then a heuristic method based on the exhaustive search and the Genetic Algorithm is employed to solve the formulated NP-hard problem. Numerical results verify the effectiveness of the joint optimal scheduling model, and they also show that the W-BSCS has great potential to promote EVs and wind power.

The W-CCS controls 7 BTs to serve the BSSs. Each BC has a 3360 kWh maximum battery carrying capacity and can take about 50 standard batteries with a capacity of a 67.2 kWh package. And the maximum driving distance of each BT is 252 km, while the driving price is assumed as $1.25/km.
