In most traditional power designs, one uninterruptible power supply (UPS) supports your servers, switches and storage devices. The single UPS is connected to utility power and then power flows from the UPS through a power distribution unit (PDU) into the connected equipment.
Do not force the power supply module into the slot. This can damage the pins on the switch if they are not aligned with the module. A power supply module that is only partially connected to the switch can disrupt the system operation. Remove power from the power supply module before removing or installing the module.
The switch chassis has two power supply slots that operates with either one active power supply module and a redundant power supply module. You can use two AC modules or one AC module and a blank cover. The active and redundant modules must be of the same type. All power supply modules have internal fans.
Should the UPS need to be replaced, the power can be switched away from the UPS without having to shut down your equipment. Automatic transfer switches (ATS) provide power redundancy to systems with only one power supply. Power flows from the utility into the UPS, for dual-UPS systems, or directly into the ATS, for single-UPS systems.
Press the release latch at the right side of the power supply module inward and slide the power supply out. Do not leave the power-supply slot open for more than 90 seconds while the switch is operating. This unit might have more than one power supply connection. To reduce risk of electric shock, remove all connections to de-energize the unit.
The single UPS is connected to utility power and then power flows from the UPS through a power distribution unit (PDU) into the connected equipment. This type of environment is prone to equipment shutdown during a power failure, UPS maintenance or UPS replacement.
