Double-glass component product solution

Double glass PV module is known as the ultimate solution for the module encapsulation technique. Although double glass modules have many advantages, they are not yet widely used in photovoltaic power plants, for which one important reason is the large power loss due to the transmission of light in the cell gap region.

Double glass module contains two sheets of glass, whereby the back sheet is made of heat strengthened (semi-tempered) glass to substitute the traditional polymer backsheet. With * Corresponding author. Tel.: +86 13776101913; fax: +86 51268961413.

Recently several double-glass (also called glass–glass or dual-glass modules) c-Si PV modules have been launched on the market, many of them by major PV manufacturers. These modules use a sheet of tempered glass at the rear of the module instead of the conventional polymer-based backsheet. There are several reasons why this structure is appealing.

The double glass module is superior to the conventional single glass module, which indicates that the encapsulation reliability risk of double glass module is good without delaminating risk. 90 Jing Tang et al. / Energy Procedia 130 (2017) 87–93 4 J. Due to the high reflectance of white EVA, the power of white double glass module is higher than that of transparent double glass module by 2-4%. Double glass PV modules is an area of significant investigation by many companies and institutes in recent years, for example Dupont, Trina, Apollon, SERIS, MIT, Meyer Burger and Talesun.

The test result (Fig. 5) shows that the double glass module has no obvious appearance abnormalities such as bubbles and delamination after this sequence test, and the power loss of the module is smaller than 5%.
