During charging, the BMS ensures that the battery voltage and Battery management charging current remain within safe limits to prevent overcharging. In the discharging state, it monitors the battery's condition to prevent excessive discharge.
During charging weak cells may get over stressed and become even weaker until they eventually fail which causes the whole pack to fail prematurely. So to avoid this BMS battery management system has to provide cell balancing. Majorly there are two cell balancing techniques first is the active balancing second is the passive balancing.
BMS battery chargers utilize complex algorithms to control BMS charge voltage, BMS charge current and BMS charge profile. These chargers are designed to work in coordination with the BMS charging circuit and the BMS charging pad to ensure safe and efficient charging.
The BMS continuously monitors both individual cell voltages and total pack voltage to prevent operation outside safe parameters. If limits are exceeded for a length of time, not only is a potentially expensive battery pack compromised, but dangerous thermal runaway conditions could ensue.
